Scion FR-S Release Dates

After much speculation, the official word was out. 1st June 2012 to be official release date of the Scion FR-S in the States. The judgment day for the Toyota-Subaru collaboration. The first 86 FR-S, the elite group known as the "first 86" were booked much earlier. The "first 86" FR-S allocations reached around mid May. But since the official release dates are out and it's been quite a time since then, maybe it's time to grab a one for yourself, cause the feedback and the response from the first few owners is overwhelming.

This high performance sports car is the fifth model to join the Scion family. Inspired by Toyota AE86, FR-S is built around the core goal of sheer performance and pure balance. This performance and balance begins with the use of the world's only front-engine, rear-wheel drive configuration using a FA20 2.0 liter, four cylinder boxer engine.

Some of the standard features on FR-S include:

  • FA20 2.0 liter, 200 horsepower, naturally aspirated four-cylinder boxer engine

  • Toyota’s cutting edge D-4S injection system with direct and port injection

  • 6-speed manual transmission that offers quick precise shifts with a short throw

  • 6-speed automatic transmission with rev-match and steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters

  • Torque Sensing Limited Slip Differential

  • 17-inch alloy wheels and ventilated disc brakes(which by the way looks awesome)

  • The front sports seats are shaped to accommodate manual shifting and support longitudinal and lateral G-force. The leather wrapped 3-spoke sports steering wheel, utilizes the smallest diameter in the Scion lineup. The idea of “Pure Balance” is further realized by FR-S’s lightweight design and compact size. This allows the car to be quick and nimble into and out of corners. This combination is further proof that Scion is truly “Bringing the Sport Back to the Car.”

The FR-S will be available in seven colors including Raven, Asphalt, Hot Lava, Argento,Ultramarine, Firestorm and Whiteout.

    Final Word

So there's a lot to watch out for in this beautiful piece of art, which has been designed by Toyota and engineered by Subaru. It's the best of the two worlds. Toyota's agility and Subaru's stability.
As far as the feedback and the response from the few esteemed owners are concerned the word is positive so far. So why not take FR-S for a spin.
